Majlis is an Arabic term meaning “a place of sitting” used to describe various types of formal legislative assemblies in Islamic countries. It's basically a religious gathering of people and friends. Majlis is also a common term used for a special gathering in remembrance of Imam Hussain Ibne Ali [The Son of Imam Ali (A.S.) and the Grandson of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) ]. Further, this word is frequently used in Indian Sub-Continent as a common address to the community in Imambargahs or mosques by a religious scholar or orator.
